BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF PROFESSOR OLUDELE ADELANWA ITIOLA
Oludele Adelanwa ITIOLA graduated from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awololo University) in the 1970s,
where he obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree with Honours. The scholarship awarded by the Federal
Government of Nigeria enabled the young Itiola to proceed to Chelsea College, University of London, United
Kingdom for his Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Technology and King’s College of the same
University for his Doctor of Philosophy degree, which he obtained in 1986.
A member of many learned scientific Societies, Professor Oludele Adelanwa Itiola joined the services of the
University of Ibadan as Lecturer I in 1987 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 1999. He has acted
in various capacities within and outside the University as Sub-Dean (Undergraduate and Postgraduate), Head of
Department, Dean of the Faculty, External Examiner in Pharmaceutics to Obafemi Awololo University,
University of Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University, University of Benin, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to
mention a few. He was the Coordinator of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria Orientation Programme for foreign
trained pharmacists on several occasions.
Professor Itiola is an expert reviewer to several local and international scientific journals and became a fellow of
the Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria in 2009. He has been a Technical Consultant to several
Pharmaceutical companies, especially in the use of excipients for drug delivery purposes.
The thoroughness of Professor Itiola led to his appointment as the pioneer Director of the Directorate of Quality
Assurance of the premier University in Nigeria, The University of Ibadan, where he laid several foundations on
which the directorate still thrives today. This inherent character of hardwork led to his been singled out for
appointment by the Governor of Ogun State when he was appointed as the Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic
Abeokuta, a position he served with utmost dedication and commitment.
Professor Oludele Adelanwa Itiola, FPSN, is a recipient of several awards, including the University of Ibadan
Senate Research Grant Award, Individual Research Grant Award, Phytomedicine Research Grant Award, Inter
Faculty Multidisciplinary Research Grant Award and has been lead investigator on several projects, including the
University of Ibadan College of Medicine Research Grant Award for the formulation of halofantrin suppository
and the MacArthur Foundation Grant award for the establishment of the Centre for Drug Discovery, Development
and Production, University of Ibadan, where he just concluded his appointment as the Director of the Centre.
Professor Itiola has over 107 publications across different subjects of professional competence. He has supervised
several undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students, and some of them are Professors and Captains of
Industries globally.
Oludele Adelanwa ITIOLA, a Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology and a native of
Abeokuta North, Ogun State, is happily married and God blessed the marriage with wonderful children.
